Wales has begun its first side-by-side trial of hydrogen fuel cell and battery electric refuse collection vehicles, funded by more than £420,000 from the Welsh Government. Cardiff Capital Region is coordinating the programme with Ricardo, Hyppo and two local authorities.
Reconomy has acquired Gesellschaft für Abfallwirtschaft mbH (GfAW), a Germany-based provider of disposal and recycling routes for complex industrial waste streams. Founded in 1993, GfAW serves construction and demolition companies across Germany, Italy and France.
Glasgow-based electronic resource management company WEEE Scotland has rebranded as Circulus. Founded 12 years ago, the company has expanded beyond end-of-life recycling into repair, reuse, remanufacturing and lifecycle management, and says the new name reflects that broader role.
Zorbatek, an Ellesmere Port-based aluminium recycler, has joined Alupro. The family-run company processes zorba, a mixed non-ferrous scrap stream of which more than 25,000 tonnes is produced annually in the UK, and has plans to scale into a round-the-clock operation.
