Community groups across the Liverpool City Region are to share £165,000 to cut household waste through reuse and recycling projects. The Zero Waste Community Fund 2026/27, run by Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority in partnership with Veolia, has announced support for 15 projects.
Former Environment Secretary George Eustice has joined a campaign to reverse the Treasury's decision to remove a Landfill Tax exemption for materials used to treat dredged waste. He warns the change, due in April 2027, will damage UK ports and cost local authorities at least £20 million a year.
Waste disposal contracts worth £5.28m over four years are on the agenda for City of Wolverhampton Council's cabinet on 27 May. Cabinet members will be asked to delegate authority to award the contracts, which are split into six lots and will replace arrangements expiring on 31 October 2026.
The Recycling Association has named Craig Robinson, a recycling industry figure with almost 25 years in paper, cardboard and glass, as its next chief executive. He joins on 1 June 2026 and will work alongside current chief executive Paul Sanderson before taking over fully on 17 August.
Scotland has launched a Circular Energy Infrastructure Mission Board to drive reuse and remanufacture of materials across the country’s energy system. Reusing wind turbine components alone could generate £1.6 billion in economic value over the next decade, according to the board.
