Valpak launches global EPR data platform referencing 60 million SKUs. Valpak by Reconomy has launched a global data platform to help brands and retailers manage packaging obligations, recyclability and extended producer responsibility costs across multiple countries. The platform references over 60 million SKUs and is used by major UK brands to manage compliance.
The Global Data Insights Platform allows businesses to centralise packaging, component and supplier data in one system, model pEPR compliance costs and assess recyclability ahead of modulated fees. Phillip Crum, director of data insights at Valpak, said enquiries had risen by more than 40 per cent in eight months following the arrival of the EU's Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation. Seven US states have also passed bills for packaging EPR.
Crum said: "Modern compliance is not just about submitting accurate data - the real benefits lie in putting the data to work, to reduce costs and drive change. Managing compliance across borders calls for a new level of visibility and instant analysis."
Packaging firm Pact Group has invested in Plan B Circular, the UK textile-to-textile polyester recycler behind Project Re:claim, its joint venture with the Salvation Army Trading Company (SATCoL). The deal aims to scale polyester recycling ahead of EU legislation expected in 2028.
Sixteen international partners led by Danish Technological Institute have launched InFACT, a project to turn household flexible plastic waste such as crisp packets, coffee bags and meat films into new packaging, including food packaging. Less than 15 per cent of this material is currently recycled.
